Welcome Message

A modern building with large glass windows and a white roof stands in the foreground, while a long, lit building with many windows stretches across the background under a twilight sky.

Dear Therrell High School Families, Students, Staff, and Community Partners,

Welcome back to another exciting school year at Daniel M. Therrell High School!

As I begin my second year as principal, I do so with immense pride, gratitude, and excitement for what lies ahead. Last year was one of growth, learning, and meaningful progress. Together, we demonstrated what is possible when students, staff, families, and community partners unite around a common purpose. Because of your hard work and commitment, Therrell experienced notable academic gains and continued making meaningful strides toward excellence.

While we are proud of what we accomplished, we recognize that our journey is far from complete. This year's theme, "From Good to Great," reflects our commitment to building upon the strong foundation we have established. It is a reminder that good is never our destination—greatness is achieved through continuous improvement, intentional effort, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student.

Last year, we celebrated growth in student achievement while continuing to expand opportunities that prepare our students for success beyond high school. Through rigorous academic programs, increased college and career readiness opportunities, strong community partnerships, and a dedicated focus on building meaningful relationships, we continued moving Therrell in the right direction. Every accomplishment serves as motivation to reach even greater heights.

This school year, we remain committed to:

  • Building on our academic momentum and improving student achievement across all content areas.
  • Strengthening instructional excellence in every classroom.
  • Expanding opportunities for Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and career pathway completion.
  • Fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student feels valued and empowered.
  • Strengthening partnerships with families and the community to ensure every Panther has the support needed to succeed.

As we prepare for the first day of school, we ask that all students arrive ready to learn by adhering to our school expectations. Students are required to wear the appropriate grade-level collared polo shirt and an appropriate bottom as part of the Therrell High School uniform:

  • 9th Grade: Gray collared polo
  • 10th Grade: Black collared polo
  • 11th & 12th Grades: Red or White collared polo

Uniform shirts may be purchased online:

In addition, we will continue our efforts to provide a distraction-free learning environment through the use of Yondr pouches. Each scholar will be assigned a Yondr pouch at no cost and will be responsible for bringing it to school each day. Students who fail to bring their assigned pouch or who lose or damage it will be responsible for paying the applicable replacement fee. We appreciate your partnership and support as we continue this important initiative to maximize instructional time and minimize distractions.

To our returning students, welcome home! We are excited to continue watching you grow academically, socially, and personally. To our newest Panthers and their families, welcome to the Therrell family. We are honored to have you join our community and look forward to partnering with you throughout your high school journey.

As we embark on this new school year, I encourage each of us to embrace the challenge of moving From Good to Great. Great schools are built through consistency, collaboration, perseverance, and a shared commitment to excellence. Every lesson taught, every relationship strengthened, every challenge overcome, and every success celebrated brings us one step closer to becoming the school we envision together.

Thank you in advance for your partnership, cooperation, and commitment to making this school year a success. Together, we will continue building a culture where every student can thrive, every classroom promotes excellence, and every day presents a new opportunity to grow.

Together, we are not simply pursuing improvement—we are pursuing greatness. From Good to Great…Every Student. Every Classroom. Every Day.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming you to Open House on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Join us to receive student schedules, meet teachers and staff, learn about our plans for the upcoming school year, and start the year off on the path From Good to Great. We look forward to seeing you there!

Panther Pride Always!

Warm regards,

Octavius Harris, Ed.S.
